As the first NHS proton facility is due to open in 2018, this RCR symposium will review evidence supporting the delivery of radiotherapy using protons. The session will consider which patients may benefit from proton therapy and the certainties and uncertainties of this relatively new method of treatment delivery. The session will cover how current evidence is being used to establish the UK proton therapy service and plans for data gathering to inform future service developments to ensure that the NHS service is based on scientific evidence.
