This session, chaired by Dr Jessica Strid from Imperial College London, will focus on the links between cancer and inflammation (using ovarian cancer as an exemplar) and explore how inflammation – a type of immune response – is implicated in the development and survival of cancer cells. Professor Fran Balkwill from Barts Cancer Institute – Queen Mary University of London, will explain how her team have been using cutting edge technology to re-create the tumour microenvironment and will share some of their key learning points, including future challenges and opportunities. By the end of the session, you’ll have a better understanding of the role that inflammation plays on certain cancers, and how the immune system can help develop new treatment approaches to test in clinical trials.
